Portable Antiqiuities Scheme
An Access Database is available on demand.

We would be glad to have your comments.

If you are new to Data Models, this page of my new Tutorial will help you understand the Data Model.
This page shows a general Data Model that covers the Portable Antiquities Scheme (PAS) and Archeological Artefacts in general.
You wil find a Model for PAS only.

There is also a design for a Data Mart, which is very useful for providng data for Reports and Business Intelligence.

Wikipedia says that :-
"The Portable Antiquities Scheme (PAS) is a voluntary programme run by the United Kingdom government to record the
increasing numbers of small finds of archaeological interest found by members of the public."

The Scheme has established some interesting facilities in Data Management, including :-
  • Data Transfer, with pages being available in XML
  • PAS has a "Controlled Vocabulary" of Terms in 19 Categories, including :-
  • Object Terms, which are 2,125 different types of Artefacts taken from the BM/MDA Archaeological Objects Thesaurus, such as ANCHOR and COIN.
  • Perdiods, such as Neolithic.
    Here's a very interesting account of a Self-Service Finder.
    Interesting Web Links include :-
  • Coins from Wales
  • Roman Coins
