Back to the Data Model.
The Area being Modelled is :-
Tracking Hospital Staff
My question/request is regarding hospital management…
I’m looking to create a database that would track staffing.
I’ve looked at the models for Hospital Staff and Nurses Roster (as well as a payroll model
which I can’t locate again…) and I’d like to take pieces from each of them…
The goal is to track/display staff that are on for each shift, for each of several ward locations
(starting with only 1 ward), display alerts if staffing is below minimum (total # and licensed staff), input/confirm daily staffing
with any leave/overtime for that day, ensure that each staff member is working the correct hours (biweekly)… and I can think of
many of things to group in eventually, but I have to start somewhere!
I had started with a table for staff info that included: LName, FName, Location, Shift, Hours, and Position
but looking at the Nurses Roster model, I can see that pulling staff info into a daily roster table (or query? Form?) and having
a separate table for shifts seems to make a lot more sense…
The current systems being used consist of a shared excel workbook that has data entered manually by each ward, along with each
ward manager creating a schedule in excel biweekly (and each manager has their own slightly different template).
Data is entered several times over, with some things done by hand.
Scrambling around is a daily occurrence and, ideally, I’d like to stop that…
Oh, and I work at a federal hospital in the US, if that’s important.
That would probably explain the inefficiency!
I realize that this is a very basic scheme and it may very well be beyond me.
I don’t want this to seem like a request to design a database (sorry if it seems like that!)
but I’d like to know if I’m on the right track at all… whatever information you’d be able to
send my way would be greatly appreciated as I continue to take courses and tinker on my own.
Thank you,
Jason
